  1. I think the defense and goaltending go hand in hand for Philly. If their defense meshes well and improves over last year, I think Hart has a big bounce back. If not…could be trouble

  2. I think you nailed it with the comment about not being able to practice and it snowballing on them last year. Early in the season last year, people forget that they were fighting for the top spot, then suddenly, the goals dried up and the defensive issues were exposed. This was an issue I noticed early on in the season and knew it was only a matter of time before the timely goals stopped bailing them out. In a normal season, this is something that can be addressed in practice and on off days, but they just never got the chance. Hart is also a young guy and was living alone, many people forget that these are humans and all dealt with this pandemic differently. For us Philly fans, we were told over and over by Chuck Fletcher and AV "don't be too quick to make judgements on the overall state of the team, based on this weird season". Although I was in the minority of fans who agreed, it's hard not to go into panic-mode, seeing what we did for the last 2/3 of the season. I think Chuck addressed the blue line holes and made good changes to the culture of the locker room. I'm ready for the orange and black to turn some heads this year, they have the pieces, just needed the right chemistry.

  3. flyers fan since 83ish here. the last nine years have been nothing short of brutal. Homer wrecked the franchose in every way imaginable.

hexy spun his wheels for five years with a bad coach, although his drafting was decent. but he could have, and should have, completely gutted the team, miss the playoffs for several years, to complete a real rebuild.

the jury is out on Fletch, but its not looking good. I commend his efforts this summer, but there were a lot of risks.

Boy Wonder has huge question marks in jet. the kid goes down faster and more often than a porn star. our D is being rebuilt after years nightmare. we got ride of one of this teams anchors in V. jvr amd G will likely stay and finish their contracts.

unfortunately the Philadelphia flyers are now just another franchise. the magic of the 70s, 80s and excitement of the lindros era are long gone

  4. They should just put Gritty on the ice. I'm sure he's packing nuks or a crowbar somewhere…

  5. With all these changes I really could imagine Ristolainen, who undeniably produced very bad numbers in Buffalo, is the one that does surprise. With less turnovers by teammates and less responsibility he could fly on the O Reilly effect. Plus Risto kinda stagnated in Buffalo and seems extremely motivated to proof haters wrong. He smells a deep run, and so do I.

  6. Flyers Goalie Coach was Sharks when Jones was good they say that is one of the Reasons . they signed Jones and it's a 1 year deal so have to see .

  7. I think the Flyers will become a surprise contender to win their first Stanley Cup since 1975 by playing like the 1980 US Olympic Team. Example of that: have Carter Hart be the Philadelphia Flyers version of Jim Craig. Also, if they have to play the Tampa Bay Lightning in the playoffs, I think they should beat them like how the US beat the Soviets.

  8. I saw that ninja edit to add Ellis. Good stuff. I want the Flyers to do well, but I just don't have confidence that they will.

  9. As a flyers fan I’ve been drained of all hopes and dreams, at this point whatever happens happens

  10. As a life long Flyers fan I’m usually pretty optimistic about this team. But unless we have it figured out in the first month of the season we simply aren’t as good as hurricane, Pitt, Isles, Rags, Caps. That leaves us in a position for who sucks worse the Flyers, Devils and Jackets. I really hope I’m wrong, but I think he nailed it with picking us 6th in the division.

  11. Not getting past NYI….or Washington. Second round early exit this year is about it.

  12. I'm a lifelong fan and I cannot stand their laid back defensive strategy. They make no attempt to attack the puck holder. Seeming to wait in tight on the goalie for the the other team to take a shot so they can get the rebound. BUT AT THE SAME TIME…. They're horrible at taking away the pass ( no active sticks) and they are horrible and turning their backs to one side and leaving on of the wingers just walk right in on net. Their patented defensive of skating toward the puck carrier, FULL STOP while he's still out of reach and then hunching over at the waist, one hand on the stick outreached to poke at the puck is laughable. I really hope they get some aggressive Dmen on the team that know how to disrupt the flow in the defensive zone.

  13. Theyre the team with the highest expectations difference thats for sure

  14. Flyers have made good moves to address their issues. They get that much needed toughness in Ristolainen who also with limited ice time and responsibility could have a very good season. Ellis is obviously a great pick up. Also interesting to see how Atkinson works out.

  15. its either gonna be a great season or an abyssmal one. i think the least likely thing is that flyers sneak into playoffs and get knocked out in the first round. if the gambling by chuck doesnt pay of will be 7th in metro drafting in the 7th – 12th but if we do make it it means that hart had a bounceback season. the new guys have preformed well and we have a better roster than the one that locked first seed in the east 2 seasons ago

  16. I love what Philly has done to their blue line. If Hart can play to his ability, flyers can be a force

  17. People got a lot of hope in a team that looked like they gave up. The Rangers and Devils showed more fight.

  18. The one thing they didn’t do was get rid of
Alain Vigneault. He’ll hold them back from reaching their potential. Didn’t like him in Vancouver and hated him signing in Philadelphia.

  19. Really like most of their moves. D looks better. That goaltending though looks shaky….I'm not sold on Carter Hart yet, especially after last year. Will be interesting to watch how they do. Tough division.

  20. Flyers are being slept on and will surprise alot of people.

  21. I'm just happy the roster got shaken up good. Bunch of moves that I can't tell yet are they great or not but I got my high hopes.

  22. Love the review. Huge Flyers fan here. I'm confident in the moves they made. Hoping the beefed up D will help protect Carter Hart better so he can have a bounce back year. Great stuff.

  23. My honest to god prediction for them is 1st in the Metro. They always find a way to make the playoffs every other year, but I actually really really like their blue line this year which should let Hart breath a bit and have a bounce back, and I really really like their fowards to bounce back to. It's a gut pick but knowing how this team functions it's gonna happen

  24. Do you factor Covid into the past season. They began the past season play well until the played Jersey and Covid hit the team. Afterwards they couldn’t find their game and trashed the season.

  25. 30 penalty kill, 31 goals against is oof dogfood. I guess that's why they have a new backup and replaced at least 3 of their top 6 D

  26. commenters seriously think Risto will help the blueline? he is subtraction by addition

  27. Personally I think it boils down to Hart. If he's not up to snuff, forget it.

    Excited about the Farabee/Allison combination.

  28. Best prediction I have(and this is purely guessing lol) is we’ll go 43-34-5; probably out in the 1st round as usual.

  29. Gritty is going to have a lot to reasons to celebrate this year – big moves, big changes, big season ahead for the Broadstreet boys

  30. Fun fact we have the most Stanley cup appearance losses since the last Stanley cup championship.
