  1. Let me know your thoughts on the Flyers offering the coaching job to Torts, sounds like it may be another day or so before the contract is complete.

  2. As a lifelong Flyers fan, our ownership is hopeless. Torts won’t make that much of a difference because we just aren’t that good. The organization overvalued high draft picks like Konecny, Provorov, Frost and Sanheim.

Since Ed Snider died, the Flyers are run by bean counters who treat the team like a business. All they want is for Torts to get them to the playoffs as they don’t care about building a true winner. We’ve been irrelevant in this town for a decade now.

  3. He has a history of being emotional, fiery, & holding accountable. But not strong on development. The Flyers are in a tough spot – too many older, highly-paid, 'set in their own way' players who will turn against him & young players who won't understand needing to learn a structured style. Chuck Fletcher is the complete opposite. This experiment won't help, expect a major roster overhaul.

  4. Cam Atkinson should be very familiar with Torts given they were both in Columbus together for a 5.5 years before Atkinson was traded to the Flyers. Atkinson also wore an "A" for the jackets then and had some of his best years under Tortorella. Tortorella is known for his tough defensive-style of play which keeps players accountable; which is honestly something that should benefit the Flyers and Carter Hart. I wouldn't mind Hart getting more constant team support and boosting his confidence by playing well. What Columbus hasn't been known for is goal-scoring… which is also a problem for the Flyers. The Flyers lack the high-end scoring talent of many of the top teams in the league, and can't afford to sign those types of players in FA… so bringing in any coach really wasn't going to change this… What the Flyers do have though is good depth in scoring forwards… so maybe this is the best option available to the team going forward if they're trying to be competitive again this year. Personally, Torts was my #2 choice behind #1 Trotz but it seems as those Barry Trotz didn't want to come to Philly. If Torts can come in and fix Provy's and Risto's defensive declines… it would go a long way to making the Flyers more competitive. Defensive, relatively low-scoring, grinding type games aren't necessarily as much fun to watch… but maybe it's a reset the Flyers need.

  5. As a Flyers fan….I'm on the fence with this one…we shall see, we have a ways to go yet……I kinda wanted the guy from Vancouver….

  6. Perfect fit, the fans will love him and so will any hockey-obsessed and/or hard working players on the team. Slackers or players who are prone to turnovers or mistakes oh man sucks to be you lol. Don’t forget your puke bucket for first practice and hockey reporters will now really have to earn their money in Philly 😂

  7. As a lifelong Flyers fan l love this hiring , even if we suck atleast Torts will give great post game comments , no total rebuild, we had alot of significant injuries in 2021 – 2022 , a couple signings and trades , Hope we do get Johnny Hockey in Philly though,… him and Coots would be incredible together!!

  8. Flyers have a history of using hard nosed guys in management, like Clarke, Holmgren, Hextall etc., so guess this is no surprise. I'm not a fan of this move. Torts is very rough and inflexible with younger players. He's old school. Think he'll be gone in 2 years. On the other hand, guy like Provorov needs to get his butt kicked into gear, and Konency might bounce back, so who knows? JVR might ask for a trade now lol

  9. I like Torts, but don't think this is a good fit….despite what Fletcher says, this should be the beginning of a total rebuild. You trade your one really good veteran player in Giroux at the trade deadline for a young unproven player and a draft pick. That move alone says REBUILD not retool. And Trots is not going to have the patience to work with younger players and their older players are not great overall. Really really bad fit in my opinion.

  10. Fletcher is the guy who should be heading out the door, because he is not a hockey guy. If he was, moves would already been made to make the Flyers a better team. And I'm on the fence with Torts…we will see.

  11. Say hello to years of hackers and grinders and no stars in Philly . Torts will drive every good player away . Especially goalies .

  12. How many games does it take before Torts loses his mind with a reporter?Lol,it’s going to get real hot fast in Philly.

  13. NY Rangers fan here. You got a very good coach in Torts. He turned the Rangers around. He's definitely not for everyone and no doubt that a few players on the Flyers are privately not happy about him getting hired, but they will have to deal with him now. He's a bit of a crazy person but he's also crazy like a Fox. He knows what he's doing and knows how to get the best out of players. He also doesn't put up with any b.s, so if anyone on the team last season was treated with kid gloves or given special treatment, those days are over. He will work all the players big time in practice and get them in great physical shape. I think he will definitely help the Flyers, so good luck next season with Torts (except when you play the Rangers!).

  14. Columbus season ticket holder here. Torts just wants players to play the right way and if they don't they will not get ice time. Ask Anthony duclair and more recently Patrick Laine. Torts is a proven winner and gets results. Good luck Philly I hope things work out.

  15. With Benning and Chiarelli canned I'd have to say Chuck Fletcher is easily the worst executive in hockey.

  16. I always liked Torts' teams, and I always thought he'd make a great Flyers coach. I've been wrong before, but I've got a good feeling about this.
