They literally left it all out on the ice. Tampa put up a defensive clinic in Game 7. Remember, Tampa drafted Stamkos and Hedman in 2008 and 2009 and didn't win a cup until 2020, 12 years after Stamkos was drafted. Marner was drafted in 2015, 7 years ago. It is disappointing, but it's important to keep perspective. Ovechkin didn't win a cup until his 30s. Neither did Yzerman. Before that, they were considered chokers. In 2-3 years, both Tampa and Boston will have faded away with their stars being past their prime. At that time, Marner and Matthews will be around 28 years old – still in their prime. It would be absolutely foolish to "blow up" this core right now. What they need is tweaks, and some "puck luck".

Leafs finishes regular season in 4th place overall…. I was ssooo pumped for these playoff. So pumped to see these guys knock it out of the park…. Soooo disappointed, not sure what to do. Sad.

These version of the Leafs was fantastic Matthews, Marner , Riley all came to the party as did the whole team. No regrets as the effort was there and for most all educated fans this is really what they wanted to see. When you see what was put in you cannot find fault. A bounce here or there, a call here or there and they move on. The parity is off the charts.
