  1. Be lucky to hit 15 goals this year, that said, that is about the value for the AAV he signed. Gives him 3 more years to figure it out, home grown 'talent' vs going and getting a vet to do the same for this pay. In the end, he and Rasmussen need to get given up on, but, they can place hold until some of the (even) younger talent comes aboard.

  2. Blashill is part of the problem for sure. I think Zadina will be better under Lalonde where he will prob use him to his strengths. He also seems to have confidence issues. he's made many amazing plays…only to flub the shot, which makes no sense given his previous goal scoring abilities before the NHL It's almost like he suddenly lost his ability to pinpoint his shots. The other factor dare I say is he got tossed in the lineup sooner than Detroit USUALLY does. I think it was too soon. Not enough time to develop first.

  3. Zadina now has enough money to find a psychologist or psychiatrist to cure his true problem – the space between his ears. We'll probably move him for a 3rd round pick or bottom pair Dman by 2024.

  4. Another good move by Stevie Y. Give Z three yrs to develop as a two way player or give him the boot. Lalonde will have a system in place to do just that. If he's still a 24 pt and a +/- (-24) player in three yrs, he's gone.

  5. I only ever have one thought concerning Filip Zadina . . . SHOULD HAVE TAKEN QUINN HUGHES!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Moving forward, very agreeable contract. Rumors are Larkin wants around $9mil AAV and talks have stalled. Just think what the Bertuzzi negotiations will be like.
Zadina needs to play on Vrana's line, yet Vrana may be 1st line many times.

  7. This year will be zadina’s best year yet. He has yet to play a more than like 10 games with Jakub Vrana and they seem to mesh really well. If he stays healthy I think zadina has a better year, not saying it’s going to be amazing but I think it will be better.

  8. Yes it is a favorable contract for just the reasons you described. Zadina will most likey benefit from Perron's mentorship and show inprovement. Blashill's coaching style seemed to stagnate him and many other players. I think the players were confused about their identities and roles on the team. The team itself had no collective identity. They were not an offensively explosive team. They were not a defensive team. They were not a physical team. They were a bunch of players skating around without a solid plan. I would however be open to trading Zadina right now. I would be much in favor of packaging him with Lindstrom to Vegas in exchange for Zach Whitecloud. Our Defense would be improved and Berggren could take Zadina's spot.

  9. No worries about reporting on this instantly, thanks for your updates and insight. As a wings fan since 93 I appreciate all fans of my favorite team. Keep up the good work, it's great to see your channel grow!

  10. There were Red Wings fans pushing Zadina for a lot higher numbers. Being a guy that got great scoring chances and no ability to finish, I didn't expect him back. But, this number works and will give him an opportunity to finally get to his expected level of play.

  11. I think an important point is that he is relieved of the make it or break it year. He can play with less stress

  12. 24 pts full season is not worth $1.825m AAV. This is more like 4th line territory. Whom you can sign for under $1m. And with cap crunch, that mil counts. If he provided other features, maybe. I’m being harsh but Zadina is a type of player that is designed to score goals, nothing else so I’m going to use his pts production as only metric.

  13. Decent deal for both parties – it's up to Zadina to push on now, there's no more excuses about Blashill and his style and the roster has improved a lot.

  14. I think theres a lot more to his game. He came onto the red wings as the highest drafted player in close to 30 years, had lofty expectations, and joined a team that was a complete dumpster fire. He had linemates like Nielsen, Abdelkader, Ehn, Helm, Filppula and Erne. Most of his linemates have been Fringe NHL players. Everyone knows Zadina is the most skilled on that line… they would cover him like a hawk. If he were to be playing with another skilled player, It would help give him space to do what he does best, which we saw when he had short stints with Vrana. Hopefully with some new depth on the team, a new coach with a new mindset, Zadina is able to hit the refresh button and can be a 40-50 point player on a 2nd line.

  15. For those in the "trade Zadina" camp, what would be the expected return for the guy? He's got potential but try dealing him when his stock is low and the return doesn't add up. Let's see what Lalonde can get out of him.
