I was lucky to be 12 when the Oilers won their 1st cup. I used to live down the street from Kevin Lowe, and Glenn Anderson, and after the 3rd cup win, Anderson had a huge pool party and my friends and I were skateboarding up and down the back alley behind his house, it was a wild party…and some guy drowned in his pool! Crazy times back then!

I’ve been a huge Oilers fan since ‘79, and it’s hard to believe it’s been 32 yrs. since our last Stanley Cup title(better than 55 yrs. 🤫)
People say Gretz got all those points because the goaltending was 2nd rate back in the 80’s, but when you look at the Goalie names back then, that’s just not true.
It's a crime that Ryan Smyth hasn't had his #94 retired yet.
Also, Ales Hemsky is an honorable mention just for being one of the best Oilers in their history. If it wasn't for being injury-prone, Hemsky would have easily been a recognizable star in the league among the likes of Heater, Kovi, and guys like that. Guy was a real blue-collar worker but had skill for days. Imagine if he got to play in his prime with McDavid…
Excellent video! 👍 OILERS was pretty tough team to beat in the '80's. Even some of the players that left went on to be eventually become Stanley Cup Champions in other teams. Wow, quite the team! 👏

We drafted horrendously in the 90's and early 2000's. Brutal. Thank the heavens we've done better in recent years.

Since 2010 all those picks were made in the top 10 with the exception of Yamamoto. Yak was a fail Hall was traded the rest still with the team and have played NHL games.
Hard to believe that such high draft picks played so few games in the NHL. Why ? Injuries, couldn't play at NHL level, total bust etc. ?
Can you imagine those guys with today's training, diet and equipment. Scary!
Problem with Oilers drafting was in the 90s Barry Fraser wouldn't go on the road anymore scouted via highlight Reels. Sat in Mexico riding the Dynasty oilers he drafted. Once they tossed him in 2000 after mikhnov they followed up with Hemsky in 2001 Stoll Greene in 2002 Brodziak 2003 Dubnyk 2004 Coglinao 2005 Petry 2006 Gagne 2007 Eberle 2008 etc and started hitting again. We won't talk about Yakupov. Lol
Oilers are going back to the original orange shoulder jersey next season. 😉

I will say it again… when a transaction includes a $20M dollar cash component you cannot call it a trade. That is a sale and the NHL agreed and no longer allows these types of transactions as Pocklington effectively liquidated a portion of the Oiler franchise.
I really like the Weight/Guerin/Buchberger/Smyth/Grier/Marchant/McAmmond/Hamrlik/Mironov/Kovalenko/Niinimaa/Joseph era in the late nineties. Great well constructed team with lots of character

I've lived in Edmonton almost my whole life and watched the Oilers from the beginning. Let me tell you, Edmonton LOVE their Oilers!! 🤘
Watching the Oilers and just hockey in general, as a kid in the 80's was awesome! Memories I'll never forget! It was so sad when Gretzky left! 😥
And then the 90's.. I give the Oilers credit for preserving their "character" after the fall of the dynasty but it was rough and it would only get worse. 🙄
Dallas was an Oiler Killer in the early 2000's. Hated Zubov and Modano. 😆 You also forgot to mention how close Edmonton was to losing their team..
The 2006 run was absolutely amazing!! The whole city was buzzing!! But then game 7 crushed us like a ton of bricks..
What made it sting worse was Doug Weight being on the team that beat us. It was tragic. 😥(Funny enough too, I'm related to Cam Ward)
And then the decade of darkness.. plus the Chris Pronger scandal and whole bunch of other shenanigans.. Let's just say those years were bad. 😆
But if none of that would have happened.. we wouldn't have had McDavid. The planets were in line that day cause we were SUPER lucky to get him!!
So let's just say it's been tough being an Oilers fan over the years but we love our team through thick and thin!! GO OILERS!!! 🤘
i am not an oilers fan or hater. i started watching the game in 1980. EDM absolutely by far has had the most impact in my life as a hockey fan from then till now. being 48 yrs old, i am forever grateful to have seen those great 1980's/early 1990's oilers teams. out of all the CDN teams i would only really care and root for ED< if ever they got their sh*t together.

Gretzky was mostly sold, not traded. Peter puck had debts up the wazoo.

He probably won't catch him you say?? Connor McDavid is absolutely on track to hit 1700 points. He already has 700 at age 25, you don't think he gets another 1000 if he plays to 39/40?!?
He's also just about to enter his prime years, and with FINALLY what looks like a truly elite team around him, 140/150 point seasons are probably on the way.
The real question is, could he join Gretzky as the only other player to hit 2000.
