  1. Sens fan here… We HATED this trade when it happened. You never win when you trade a player like Karlsson. Little did we know:
    – Erik would spiral out
    – Norris would turn into a legit top six scorer
    – San Jose would fall apart, leading to their 1st round pick being the 3rd overall – Hello, Stützle!

But yeah, when this trade first happened, it was brutal for us. Felt like a bag full of nothing. Though I DID like DeMelo, and was sad when we traded him to Winnipeg.

  2. Sharks GM, Doug Wilson, is finally gone. What I couldn't believe was how long it took.

  3. It was a reasonable trade, but not a great one at the time and that's why they got so much flak. It is similar, on a much smaller scale to the Horvat (9th pick) for Schneider. It looks great now, but at the time, it was a bad trade, it will always be a bad trade; it just worked out. Had Karlsson stayed healthy we are not talking about this deal, if Scheider had stayed healthy, it would probably still be a bad deal. You don't know, and revisionism is not a valuable tool. You can celebrate how well it worked out for Ottawa, but that was sheer luck.

  4. Karlsson was an incredibly brilliant player for Ottawa. But he was too competitive and gutsy for his own good. He took a horrible beating as he dragged that team to Game 7 triple overtime in the conference final. He did it on one leg and he's never been the same.

  5. 11.5 danmmmmmm Letang just signed for 6.1 mil hahahaha after ending a 7.5 per deal!!! When ur team and star power is in it to win it vs me me me break the bank

  6. They did make the conference finals with Karlsson, so it wasn't a total waste, who knew Norris would turn into a 35 goal scorer,

  7. Doug Wilson traded for Joe Thornton shortly after being hired by SJ and it put the franchise on the map. Wilson traded for Karlsson hoping for another Jumbo-like splash, but this trade had no magic and could hurt SJ for 5-10 years.

  8. Honestly it's all about this damn 3rd overall pick that was never supposed to be … How SJ became awful that year is mindblowing.

  9. I wouldn't say Ottawa fleeced the sharks per say as the big reason why now people say the sens won the trade was the fact the 1st round pick turned out to be 3rd overall and we selected Tim Sutzle (big reason for that was the sharks were absolutely horrendous during the 2019-20 season).

  10. As a sharks fan, I disliked the trade as soon as it was announced, two overpaid, long term contracts for puck moving, defensively deficient defensemen, was one more than they needed , Burns and Karlsson were redundant. The real travesty was Doug Wilson convincing team management that the Sharks were still playoff contenders every year since the trade ! I feel sorry for Mike Grier, he faces a real uphill climb

  11. Way to beat a dead horse.. considering your sub count and the total views from your last few videos I can see why you are desperate for views.

  12. I called into the Ottawa sports radio station the day of the trade and renounced my fandom of the sens.

I never thought the trade would turn out like this.

  13. I laugh at this, because as someone who has played hockey, I always knew Karlsson was over rated. Him going to SJ, where they already had a couple really good Dmen, would expose him for the shill he is. Glad I'm still perfect of my takes

  14. A lot of stars needed to align for Ottawa to win this trade…and thankfully they did. It was a desperation move by them that paid off.

  15. Although the return didn’t seem great. He wanted 10 plus million a year and would not resign anyway. At the time of the trade I didn’t know the players but I thought it was a good trade to be
Honest. Let me say this is one of few trades I got right.

  16. I thought thought this trade for Ottawa at the time too. Sharks got rocked.

  17. When I look at this trade, I like to the include the he Hoffman-Boadker trade that was made a few months earlier and I think it evens out a bit more

  18. They didn't trade Burns because of Karlsson's contract they traded Burns because his contract was equally bad. Doug Wilson is responsible for the Sharks having the highest paid blue line in the league for many years thanks to bad contracts.

Put yourself in a GM's shoes though, unknowns like AHL players, and draft picks are ALWAYS on the table for someone who can help you win in the present. Even if it backfires like this particular trade did. But look at Vegas right now having to dump players because they have serious cap issues from being in win now mode for their first (and only) 4 seasons.

  19. Karlson didn't have an easy transition from Ottawa to SJ. He was the key piece in the trade and there were so many things going against Karlson mentally and physically. This was probably the cause of his lack of production and would probably be closer to a tie if Karlson produced like he did in Ottawa.

  20. Its funny…Karl…might be up to being traded…if the sharks ate some of his contract…i still believe he could be that defencemen that ottawa needs..always dreamimg

  21. September is the anniversary it was a sad day and happy day Pierre was right about that. Norris and Stuzla

  22. Didn’t the Karlsson trade happen the year the Blues won the cup?

  23. Also Ottawa Senators fleeced the Islanders as well taking Zendo Chara, drafted Jason spezza and one more player
