Ugh… I dunno man. It would need to be a low low low cap hit.

I like Bunting, but an 8 year commitment… fuck.

That’s a lot of years, BUT if it keeps the MMB line together for 8 years I’m in

Curious how well this would work. Hyman got paid and got term when he left us, and Bunting was more proficient on the top line than him. A lot less proven as he only has 100 games, but still good enough of a hockey player to grab commitment from somewhere. Would he really take a 3-4 x 8 instead of a potential 5-6 x 6? Regardless, hope it pans out, he’s stellar for the top line’s chemistry

Yeah I don’t know about this one. It would have to REALLY be a low cap hit

Let’s say Bunting has a good season and could get 4×6 elsewhere. That’s $24m bringing him to age 31, where maybe he can sign another 10m deal to finish his career.

That’s $34m the Leafs would spread across 8 years, a cap hit of $4.25m.

You wouldn’t even need him to take a discount to make that contract work for both sides. The Leafs could also frontload / bonus load the contract as much as Bunting wants.

  6. Wouldn’t mind it if it’s similar to Casey Cizikas’ deal ($2.5Mx6yrs).

As long as we keep the cap low, this is great. Guys, we need to show Matthews that we’re willing to keep guys he likes and has chemistry with. Whether or not he’s actually worth a lot, as long as it doesn’t knee cap our franchise, giving your franchise player in Matthews the guys he wants is the right thing to do. Crosby had his guys, let Matthews have his.
