Three words:
Death by Powerplay
**The good:**
Jonathan Toews – looked great and dynamic all night on the ice. Shafted with a soft penalty call. Dominant PP shift leading to the goal.
Petr Mrazek – he definitely kept us in with a shot of winning the game with some nice 5-on-5 saves
Filip Roos – looked solid in his NHL debut. He’s slow but he can create a really nice gap and shields the puck well.
**The bad:**
Seth Jones – If he’s getting paid $9.5 million he has to be good, not a complete liability. He’s got this reputation as a minute-eating defenseman, but he looked gassed in the 2nd and couldn’t even get into the O-zone which killed off a nice PP chance for us.
Petr Mrazek’s stats – they look ugly on first glance but he did the best he could
**The ugly:**
The PK – We will finish dead last on the PK this season. That was terrible.
Well I watched the first game of the year. That might be all I have in me this year. Go on without me boys
9 o’clock tomorrow. Let’s try not to give them as many power plays
* Jack Johnson was honored in his return to Colorado and partook in the banner raising ceremony.
* Filip Roos made his NHL debut. He wasn’t noticeable, which for a defenseman playing his first real game on North American ice, means he played well.
* A Khaira turnover led to the Avs getting some chances and a MacKinnon shot trickeld through Mrazek’s 5-hole.
* Hawks’ PP went 2-for-3.
* Toews scored on an open net off a cross-ice pass from Kurashev.
* Domi redirected a T. Johnson pass into the net.
* Avs’ PP went 4-for-6.
* Nichushkin scored twice: with two tip-ins.
* Lehkonen scored twice: off a low-to-high pass and on a tip-in.
* S. Jones recorded 8 hits, a new career high.
* Toews was 10-for-14 at the dot.
* Lafferty fought Manson.
5-2 against the defending cup champs? Not great. Not terrible.
Domi is at 1 ppg. Someone give us a 1st for him.
Avs fans acting like they are coming out of winning 3 in 6 years hahaha.
Even though we were here for the preseason, good to see y’all again. 22-23 season is going to be a season!
The beginning of the Stanley Cuo title run
Excited we didn’t just roll over and that we played as best we could, but the loss makes my bones feel good. Knowing that the goal is to lose as many as possible for top 3 guaranteed this draft, we might just do it.
While the Hawks had no hope of winning, the refs were even worse. Colorado falling down like they don’t know how to skate and it’s a penalty. Meanwhile, Avs have to commit an severe and obvious interference or high sticking before anything gets called. Is the officiating also in a perpetual rebuild?
To me, it looks like Kane doesn’t have any chemistry with anyone on the team. It sucks to see, and I hope I eat my words in saying, this might be his worst year in his career.
Honestly expected worse. Was at least excited to see a solid PP! Not expecting much but a solid system foundation woukd be excellent
Well that game pissed me off a fair bit. Most of all because we actually didn’t look bad much of the time. I would absolutely *love* to see that tripping call Khaira against MacKinnon though…
So they running stalock tomorrow? I’d like to see mrazek again. If we helped him with the shitty penalties be played well
Edzo was the best part of the evening, imo.
Still gonna watch my Hawks, despite the upcoming crap of a season.
