For me something is happening internally, It's not normal when a sport team plays well and suddenly not. The easy solution is the coaches. Maybe Dineen chance or is there a coach with a great CV available? Agree with trade for scorer winger or wait to FA and spend a lot
Keep who we have on the ice. A trade is a gamble. I would think changing coaching staff is a better idea. We can't teach the young players bad habits, they are hard to break.
I will not watch a Devils game until there is a coaching change.
sign tony deangelo in the off season and or johnny gaudreau both new jersey guys. only free agency will get us out of this mess
No devils fan wants to hear it but ima say it. If Nico and Hughes don't pan out its gonna set us back worse than Parise and Kovalchuk leaving. Things are ugly now and could possibly get worse. Or they do pan out and we'll be a force for years to come need an entire new coaching staff first.
Naz should have been fired last year. Recchi is a dumpster fire with a historically terrible power play. Ruff during the presser admitted Blackwood was very sick….and played him anyway. Nico is terrible & now sick. Hughes in his 3rd year in the league can't even take a face-off as a center because he flat out stinks. Hughes was -4. This is an OWNERSHIP issues. Harris & Blitzer "understand" they have a young team so they are content with losing while prepping for "next year..next 2 years" that never comes. If your ownership group doesn't care if you win or lose…then there is your answer.
Our roster is the best we have seen in years. It’s Ruff and Recchi.
Coaching change, goalie pickup, TY Smith back to minors, Severson to right wing, practice power play…..
See you got Jon Giles , from St. Louis, good he deserves a real chance ,looked so good in his start with the blues , it’s not big but a possibility of getting a goalie who figured it out , goalies sometimes takes a bit to mature, like Bennington , give him credit for sticking with it
Worth noting that Blackwood was one of the sickest players on the team but gave his best go cuz of injuries according to coach ruff.
Doesnt excuse but explains it, cant be mad at a guy for getting sick and his replacement being hurt

i feel like anything needs to happen at this point but i am still going to support the team regardless what happens.
As much as people hate it; I 110% believe they need to be going after Evander Kane right now. Yeah he's a massive POS, but he provides the much needed goal scoring and physicality we need.
Goaltending wise the team has been an utter disaster since we brought in Schneider. We had the chance to get Holtby, Bobrovsky, Markstrom, Ullmark, Grubauer, Mrazek, Andersen and instead we wait till it's too late, go for an aging Crawford get screwed over and then pick Bernier who's career is basically over too.
Now their bright idea is to take a Gillies; a guy who the Utica Comets acquired in a trade with Calgary's AHL team last season, then they didn't bother to resign him at the end of the year. Gillies signs a 1 yr contract with St Louis.. and THEN we decide to trade for him?
We've seen this team play and beat good teams this season so it is not for a lack of talent. It just comes down to a lack of basic fundamentals. I can't for the life of me figure out how are the defensive pairings on lines 2 & 3 getting caught out of position regularly the last 7 games. I think the modern game has become enamored with the scoring defensemen. Give me 2 or 3 stay at home defensemen who can clean up the garbage near the middle of the net. Scoring is a bigger issue on offense and management has committed a lot of money to their #1 picks. They need to start earning that contract. Nico's best season was helped by an MVP winger. He needs to find the back of the net more consistently. Mercer, Bratt and Mango should've never been split up. I have no faith in Recchi and Naz, the PP is anemic & the defensive play has been the pits. Lindy is too soft, I am not saying this team needs a coach like Torts but these players have to be held accountable. Bring in coaches who will get the job done. I never expected this team to make the playoffs but I thought they would at least compete and challenge teams in their own division. It is extremely frustrating because this merry-go-round doesn't ever want to end.
The roster got better on paper but performance degraded in every department : pp , pk , goals scored , goals allowed … Definitely coaching problem . Is Tortorella still available ? He always pushes players to the limit . Columbus was super competitive even with less than mediocre roster . Solid goalie wouldn’t hurt either .

I agree with you Sir. I want a trade or two because you’re right, this team is lacking a physical winger in the top 6. JT Miller I feel would be a perfect guy to pla with Hughes at LW.

It’s gonna take time, I hope we don’t tank this year for another top 10 pick. I think we should make a trade to splash things up. We need a sniper to play with Jack Hughes. We also need a solid goalie. Is Blackwood the guy? Some night yes and some nights no. Thank god it’s still early in the year, if we go on a little winning steak, things can change. After this year, Subban and his salary are gone and holtz and Luke Hughes are closer to joining and changing this team. It’s very frustrating to watch and read about from down under 🇦🇺..

Hischier, in particular, is on pace for NINE GOALS. Needless to say, NOT ACCEPTABLE from our frickin CAPTAIN.
I got to be honest with you I never thought I'd be pining for the return of Miles wood. He's the closest thing this team had to an enforcer, which modern prejudices aside, is still a necessary thing in the NHL.
Having said that it's time for the coaching staff to go. All of them. Get whatever you can for PK and Severson at the trade deadline also.
This team lacks scoring threats. Its an issue we've had for quite some time now and It becomes most evident in the way other teams play D against us. We don't have that player or two that demands respect in the O-zone which results in turnover after turnover. Even on our PP, its like defenders aren't even scared to play risky against us because they are aware of this. You can argue that Hughes is the closest thing to that with the way he skates and his creativity but he's not going to simultaneously score the amount of goals we need. 86 and 13 need someone on their lines that can rip the puck.
I been a devils fan for over 20 some years . I seen the good the bad the ugly with them. It's tough to watch but ill always be a fan. Unless NHL goes totally woke then i'm out for good.
Recchi is the worst pp coach I’ve ever seen.
Youngest team battling probably the most "on ice" adversity in the league the past few seasons. Coaching carousel every couple year and constant injuries. Recipe for an ineffective team. Fans need to calm down and be patient. Fitzy hasn't even had 2 full seasons as GM yet, he was given a difficult task being named interim GM in the middle of the season that was shut down by Covid, and this being his first season with the Green light from owners to go out and spend money. Marty was one of the biggest reasons for us choosing Ruff as he felt he would bring the correct experience and leadership to a young team. Results may not show on the ice but I feel Marty was correct. Doesn't mean I see Ruff staying around much longer but he's taught those kids quite a bit despite what people think. Unfortunately, sometimes young teams just need a new voice to get them going. That may be the case here, but I'll finish it with this. Even Mike Sullivan wouldn't be able to get this team to perform given all of our injuries. And it sort of does feel like our goalies are cursed. Mac being the best of them by far and everytime he gets in a groove he suffers an unfortunate injury. I personally would love to see Scott Stevens take over the defense for Nasreddine and I almost guarantee that would turn us around. Starts with the defense. I've watched us play probably 75% plus of this season in the defensive zone. That simply wouldn't happen with Scott Steven's on the bench. Period. I don't really see it happening but, as he just resigned from the Jets and has always coached teams whom we struggle against, Paul Maurice would be a great coach for us. Hard on players but also a players coach. Holds EVERYONE accountable and has plenty of fire. And anyone who reads this comment can't tell me that Winnipeg and Carolina always gave us hell with Maurice behind the bench. Also as a young team, it doesn't help that our 3 most important players (Nico, Jack, & Mac) haven't been able to stay healthy for an entire season over the last 3 years.
Its not fair but lindy ruff has to go . They're not listening to him anymore . Mark rechhi has to go but that is fair his power play strategy isn't working.
This team desperately needs two Matthew Tkachuk/JT Miller/Josh Anderson/Tom Wilson/Brayden Schenn type players in the top 6. This current group gets abused on the scoreboard and physically on a nightly basis.

As a lifelong Devils fan, this season has reached a boiling point. It has been a completely lost decade and a complete loss of identity. I wouldn't suggest becoming a Devils fan to anybody at this point unless you are a masochist. I have a deep love for the sport of hockey but the Devils brand of hockey is UNWATCHABLE and SUCKS. Ever since i started playing fantasy hockey with my friends ive realized how much more entertaining the other teams in the NHL are. And the Devils literally have zero fantasy viable players, now thats saying something extreme. As a New Jersey native i can tell you that Newark has been a horrible location for a NHL franchise, for the love of god what a shithole for a hockey franchise. Im so pissed i love hockey but i cant take much more of this before i jump ship. And im extremely loyal.
I have a couple trades for you seeing you won the second pick. From the Habs, Your pick 2022 for Price/Petry and we pay half Prices salary. Or Anderson and 2nd round pick 2022 for your top pick. Anderson would give you much needed grit and big points for your 3rd line that can jump up to top 6. Price and Petry with what you have would make you contenders all the sudden. You could win a cup within 2 years. Just a thought.😁
