They sure played sloppy but Anderson bailed them out. Great to see Peterka score, I thought Cozens was their best player tonight.

Man, I was glad to hear you start off with what I was thinking. It's great to win, but we have a lot of work to do.
I feel like that a lot of those errors can be attributed to the youngest guns (I realize most of our guys were young). I can recall multiple plays by power where he panicked and gave up the puck in our zone. Lots of mishandles by peterka. Not totally blaming them but that stuck out the most.

Felt like that fourth line was huge with that one shift in the offensive zone late in the third. Thought Peterka and Mittlestadt stood out
we have a lot of kids, it's the 1st game if the season. I'm not worried yet. Granato will get them in shape. just need to get into the swing of things again. Anderson played like he was 20 years younger tonight.
It's easy to focus on the bad the Sabres did this game with all the giveaways etc. but don't forget Ottawa also made a ton of mistakes also and got bailed out also, it wasn't just Anderson doing the bailing out. But in the end he was the better goalie + we scored more goals, and Ottawa isn't supposed to be a bad team this season neither so…
First game of the season, jitters and just getting back into things = sloppy hockey. That is where you need Goal-tending to do their job and let the team in front of them get back in to the swings of things while being steady.
Anderson will work well for that, hopefully Comrie too.
We won… that helps.. it takes a few games for teams to jell… Let's face it.. how many per-season games were played by people who are not here now? There are only 6 games in the pre-season and I believe our base 20 only played together in the last one or two at the most. As you said though.. it's early.. and the difference between good and not-so good teams.. we found a way to win it.. and held on at the end… they finished… that alone is a step in the right direction.. won in regulation so Ottawa didn't get an extra point. You never know.. this game may have been ugly… but it also could at the end of the season make the difference between whose in and who ain't!

The PP was indeed brutal, and we let up too many odd man rushes. Power looked like a rookie. The Cozens line was the best. Anderson the first star. People are talking about Ottawa being a playoff team. Baloney. Great win!

Shout out to Kyle Okposo who looked like a total pro with his first game as Sabres captain. He drew a nice penalty and then him and his line were very dominant with the puck at the end of the third.

YES! Some things to clean up, but if they play with that kind of effort every night, they're gonna surpass a lot of expectations. Anderson was brilliant.
Good win in my opinion. Last year this was a loss for us. We do need to clean it up a bit.
I agree, it was so bad with alot of mistakes. There were atleast 2 or 3 instances when I saw 4 Sabres going for the same puck with 1 Sens player. Anderson stood on his head for this team. Our PP was atrocious. On the good side we had some good hits during the game and we seemed to have won alot of faceoffs and important ones. The one thing I keep in mind is the team didnt play together at all with this full roster in preseason. So lots of misplays and bad positioning was expected. Gonna be a good 3 or 4 games before they know where teamates will be.
Skinner almost tied it, 3.05 remaining and he tried that amateur move. Disgusting.
Well ya said it it's the first game of the year at least we didn't collapse down 1 nothing they stuck to there game and won by 3 goals so I'll take that we need to win well we gel we have tons of new young players in the lineup now …
Ottawa outplayed us in the 1st we outplayed them in the 2nd and in the 3rd we got conservative tried to protect lead and fortunately popped the 2 EN Goals
The sabres penalty kill htw was absolutely fantastic tonight you didn't really touch on it but we handled business on that 5 on 3 and even at tines generated dangerous chances short handed ..loving the effort early lots more positives I took away then negatives brother yea there were some thing that have to be cleaned up but I'm really liking the foundation being nuilt and this young core roster is finally all hitting the sabres lineup…its always Rasmus dahlin trying to get to cute in our zone and turns it over multiple times a game he's really got to stop that

Hey Wayne I agree with you sloppy but that was a game the old sabres would’ve found a way to lose this team is different I think their gonna find ways to win games even on not their best games
Anderson was amazing dude. I wish he was like 10 years younger. He could be out starting goalie for years if he was.
they looked a little nervous in this one for sure, but not as bad as your saying. didn't use their speed enough. lots of head scratching passes. first 10m of the 2nd was the best they played all game and it won them the game. also thought the refs were poor. Definitely gonna b an up and down year, but a good start.
The Sabres record sections of post game speeches. Granato acknowledged the struggles and I feel they can clean this up.
They need to get better in sync with each other and at times looked quite slow and still. I love Granato but I still see the Sabres being one of the most flat-footed teams in the league. Maybe the conditioning practices are not often enough or the "skate"/"create space" mantras aren't being said enough.
Overall I'm happy with the win and so pumped to see this team start to gel together and find ways to win this year!
