I hope the stars do well but I don't see much improvement they as well trade pavelski and khudobin and radulov away for picks to make cap space for Robertson and ottinger next year and keep Holtby buy out bishop or move his contract out klingberg they might get a 1st for him pick will come in handy new coach next year
cant blame nill. hes done his job. its not his fault players like radz, benn, and seguin regressed like a motherfucker after getting paid. you can maybe blame him for bishop and montgomery… but other than that hes put together an awesome team on paper that sadly isnt living up to their potential.
Dallas' problems the last 2 years (since Monty's exit – he was turning the team around just as he was let go) has been the 3 B's…
Bishop – streaky, injury prone, and while he could steal games was he overrated due to the aforementioned issues. With Bish on LTIR his cap hit is negated but we didn't get anything for him so we're just picking up scraps. I like Holtby but he's not the starter we need. So while Bish is kind of out of the picture finally, we fell flat versus getting some value out of him.
Benn – horrible cap hit for the production, horrible production for the cap hit, and we're stuck with him because of the contract along with his apparent decline. No other team will touch him. He's blocking so much talent in trades, free agency, and/or picks.
Bones – this is THE biggest problem. When Monty was coaching a more aggressive, college hockey style… even Benn looked rejuvenated. We have (or perhaps 'had') a skilled group of forwards and we play dump and chase as a crutch instead of routinely carrying the puck into the zone with confidence (Monty chipped through this and we were an exciting team to watch again finally)… and we play a defense first game. This team needs to score, we need to handle the puck in meaningful ways versus just grinding in the corners, and we need to allow creativity instead of hoping we can win with defense. Bones is the number one problem and the "system" is the number two problem.
The 3 B's…
Get rid of Bones. Hire ANYONE who preaches offense. Announce a full rebuild and realize we're stuck with a few pieces that we'll have to rebuild around until either contracts expire or they don't suck anymore.

For me Benn and Seguin have looked almost uninterested for a couple of years. Not worth the money they are being paid at least. That's your supposed offensive leaders and it's a problem. Hintz is starting to warm up though, which is nice.
Big Rig wanted $4M a year and Seattle gave it to him. Dallas got Suter or Haakanpaa (take your pick) for less than Oleksiak wanted. Plus, Dallas needed that money to resign Heiskanen.
