This doesn’t give an answer to why? It just says he’s had limited ice time. Am I missing something?

Went down to 3 lines, you’re not taking Bratt or Mercer out of the game and he’s not responsible enough on defense for the 3rd line in what was basically a must win game and you’re already down 2-0

I’m one of the most progressive hockey fans on this sub, and I had no issue with it. You’re 0-2, you need a win, so you shorten the bench. Did Holtz unfairly get squeezed? for sure. Was it an issue yesterday? no.

If it continues, that’s another can of worms. But in that particular desperation scenario, I fail to see why it was a problem. there are 78 more games.

Game 1: How dare you not play Jesper Bratt more?? (which I fully agree with that argument – he is our best offensive weapon)

Game 3: How dare you load up ice time on your offensive weapons and not on the unproven rookie??? (in a crucial game that we fell behind 2-0 early).

Yes, Holtz did not play much. But Tatar, Wood, McLeod, and Bastian all played under 10 mins as well.

That, in my opinion, should not be criticized considering how well the top 6 responded. Every top 6 forward was on the score sheet. Our 3 best forwards had multi-point games. We dominated play in the 2nd and 3rd periods.

Headline should be: Why coaches decision to rely heavily on his best players paid off in 4-2 win vs. Ducks

This may be the wrong thought process, but I think it’s foolish to bench this kid for short term gains. The goal is to be competitive by the end of the season and beyond, and developing Holtz is a huge part of that. If you need to bench him to squeeze out a win in October against Anaheim, the problems are much, *much* bigger than whatever mistakes Holtz might be making. Doing this is going to hurt his confidence and stunt his development, especially since he’s pretty much given you everything asked of him so far. If he was dogging it or making constant mistakes and needs to be held accountable sure, this team needs accountability, but I don’t see that from him.

If this becomes a trend I’ll worry about holtz development

But down 2-0 and 0-2 on the season and we ink out a dominating win? 4-2 with many more chances easily could have been 7-2?

That’s fine. Game script will do this. Let’s hope we don’t find ourselves down 2-0 to start the next game.

  7. They stated they overplayed the top players to force a win.

Win at all costs. I think Ruffs decision contributed to the win here. We dominated them last night chance wise

Down 2-0 in the game. On the verge of an 0-3 start, if you want your more experienced guys to go out there and gut it out, then get them the ice time. I see nothing wrong with this. The boys got more time and they completed the comeback. Good win.

  10. It was fine to do in a must win game, but he’s too important to be playing with McLeod and bastian going forward
