Just wanted to point out at 7:05 that the outdoor game was against Montreal, not Toronto. I was supposed to go but had a uni exam at 7pm on a Saturday 😭
I think the on-ice decline can be traced back to losing Marc Methot over Cody Ceci in the expansion draft. Once Vegas claimed him and flipped him to Dallas, the first domino fell.
Are they at fault for choosing a higher drafted, younger player over an older player with a history of injuries? I don't know, perhaps Ottawa would've gotten a greater return by dealing a younger Ceci in the offseason while he was still under contract so they'd have more salary cap space for Methot and that's arguably the most confounding aspect to the whole thing.
I just remember the times we chose Heatley over Hossa, Redden over Chara and in all 3 instances including this one, we chose the wrong player if a Cup was the ultimate goal.
As a sens fan this is amazing. Thank you. But I also hate you.
I knew this video was coming, and I know that it’s gonna hurt to watch
I remember karlson's play during those playoffs. Everything he did turned into gold. He played the best hockey I've ever seen
Hate on Melnyk all you want, but as a Leafs fan, he was a saint for taking that Phaneuf contract. Thanks Geno
Hockey video??? LETS GOOOOOO
Aww yeah a Hockey Collapse
Sir Donald Bradman please sb
Solid. Thank You for making this. 🔥🔥🔥
Great watch!! I loved that 2017 team. Lots of interesting details I didn't know about!
Picking the Sens is a bit of a head scratcher. I personally think the Avalanche, or the Devils would be a better Downfall
More hockey content lfggg
I remember being such a sens bandwagoner in 2017, mainly because Burrows was on the team
I analyzed hockey since 2003…each year Ottawa went into selling and rebuild mode i always had the same comment…It's because of Melnyk and his cheapness ! 2 time they were close and 2 time they had the same cycle of rebuild, 1 or 2 year of playoff than they can't sign their stars and the fire sale begins again. Last rebuild, people were asking for a change in ownership cause it didn't help the league and was getting ridiculous. I guess it took the death of Melnyk to finally unleash Pierre Dorion !!
It’s a small thing but you did get one thing wrong, the Uber incident wasn’t just let go and nobody had consequences. Since it was mainly top players they did nothing to them but the one player who wasn’t a top player who was in the front seat (Chris Wideman) was immediately traded for next to nothing.
Loved this team so much. Glad my team is getting good again
Man this was awful as a Senators fan. Makes what is happening now so much sweeter
This was awesome to see as an Ottawa native.
You guys should do more hockey collapes video…i suggest the latest Sharks team and the 1993 post Stanley cup Montréal Canadiens !!
That bit about the owner being an under-informed drunk tyrant living in Barbados, then appealing for an organ donor, having the people of Ottawa help out a Pharma Billionaire (🤢🤮) out of the charity of their hearts, only for him to still play the "move the franchise" card a couple years later makes my blood boil. Get capitalists out of sports forever. I'm not even from Ottawa! I'm actually one of those American sickos that think Canada's lack of NHL championships is hilarious lol.
please do a collapse video for the 2011-2012 NJ DEVILs
Hockey video hell yeah
Erik Karlsson’s peak was absolutely ridiculous, dude carried the Sens on one leg
Can you do a rise and fall of the sharks
7:05ish, a small correction which doesn't really do anything for this video – it was Montréal they were playing in that outdoor game, not Toronto. Still a great video nonetheless
After you hurt me so badly with the 4-1 game and not even mentioning the Leafs trading Rask for Raycroft, this is exactly the video that I need. Time to watch.
Chris Kunitz: Franchise Slayer
You guys need to do a history of failure on the Sharks in the playoffs
Arguably the biggest disappointments in the NHL in the last 20 years
That outdoor game was against Montreal not Toronto….. Go sens Go
This painted the rebuild as a pretty negative way but it was ultimately the right decision.
I’m also no fan of Melnyk and he has no shortages of wrongs but the man objectively has some positive moves too.
Video just seemed a bit bias tbh
For anyone that has ever doubted the effect that Melnyk had on the franchise, just look at the moves and news since he’s passed.
-Alfredsson is back around the team after spending years away due to Melnyk.
-Neil and Philips have roles in the organization now
-Plans for a new downtown arena are underway
-Signed 2 young stars, Norris and Stützle, to longterm deals
-Signed Giroux, local guy and productive vet
-Traded for DeBrincat, one of the best goal scorers in the league
I'm a Pens fan and I can't help but feel sad after that goal in 2OT. They look like they might be on the come-up soon, though.
Love these videos. Could we get a 2011 Canucks version of this? Would be sick
Collapse The Buffalo Bills mid 90s
Collapse: White Sox after 2005
Collapse: Broncos Post SB 50
Collapse: LA Kings from 2013-14
It was Montreal not Toronto in the outdoor game
I remember the Karlsson trade, and everyone dunking on them for giving their franchise player for a bunch of scrap. But the hockey Gods had mercy on them, and the Sharks surprisingly collapsed on their own, so one of the first-round picks ended up 2nd overall and gave them Stuztle. They also got young prospect Josh Norris who became a legitimate top 6 forward, meaning they got their first and second centers in that trade. Add Tkatchuk to the mix, who developed into the heart of the team, and there was enough hope for hometown Claude Giroux to want to jump on that ship this off-season when he was a highly touted free agent. Five years later, there is hope in Ottawa
Have to do the decade + collapse of the Buffalo Sabres after the 2006-2007 season.
I'd love to see one of these on the 2006 Hurricanes. Took 5 years to go from Cup Champions to a franchise stuck in a decade of deep mediocrity and irrelevance until Dundon bought the team, including a run to the ECF in 2009 that led to an eventual Pens sweep and a 2010 campaign in which a final day regular season loss to Tampa Bay cost them the playoffs.
Love the nhl videos ❤ even if I hate Ottawa 😂
You’re not even gonna mention Pageau on that opening graphic? WTF
Secret Base: Remember when the Sens were good?
Me: Not really no.
Secret Base: Yeah, ok it was mostly luck.
Thank christ we picked Brady
1,000th like. Yay me
overall I enjoyed the video but I really would’ve liked it if you touched on where the team is going. For example that “head scratching” pick of Brady Tkachuk is now the team’s captain and a 30 goal scorer. Or that the “terrible” Karlsson trade gave us 35 goal scorer Josh Norris and the 3rd overall pick of Tim Stützle who in my opinion is one of the most gifted players this franchise has had. While I understand its a collapse video, all this stuff is in the rear view and the team is on the up. It needs more justice than just saying we have a good young core
5 years on and that Kunitz goal is still impossible to watch as a Sens fan, great video!
Aye it’s my sens
